The 'Birds fell today. In a tough match up with Cactus, the
birds battled until the end and held their ground against the
senior team but could not hold back Holverson & Chambers.
Mackenzie Popescue pitched a great game and had 10 strike outs
giving up only 5 hits. Chambers walked as the first batter, was
Sac. Bunted to 2nd, Advanced to 3rd on a wild pitch where she
stayed until Holverson drove her in with a Home run. The 'Birds
struggled with making contact against the 65+ MPH Senior pitcher
through 2 at bat's when finally Tori Munhall managed to make
contact and beat out the throw in the top of the 3rd.
However, the UofA bound Stacie Chambers picked her off 2
pitches later. The game held until the 5th inning until Chambers
made it to the plate and homered to beat the state home
run record of 47 career home runs. The 'Birds finally started
catching up against Holverson in the Top of the 7th.
Elizabeth Hudson drove a hard hit up the middle and it appeared
new life was about to come. However, the ball bounced hard
twice and hung in the air making it easy for Cactus SS Taryn
Luttrell to scoop it up behind 2nd base and beat out the runner
by a hair. Peach Luna followed with another hard shot up
the middle to hot to handle and gave us a runner. Kennedy
Byxbee nails one hard through the 5-6 hole advancing Luna to
second. Tori Munhall comes to the plate as the tying run.
Tori battles through 2 strikes and fouls off 2 more but goes
down swinging. 2 Outs now and Leslie Appleton to the plate for
our last chance to make it to the big dance. Appleton swings at
2 and the next pitch is a ball. On the 4th pitch she gets
a piece of it but pops it up for an easy catch by the catcher.
